Horseback Riding lessons

Whether your goal is to learn to ride or to sharpen your competitive skills, at Tri-Star Farmwe have a program for you. We offer private, semi-private, and group lessons for adults and children of all skill levels. Our well-behaved school horses, tack, and arena furnishings are available for your use during lessons. Many of our school horses are available for lease to help you improve your riding skills and get more time in the saddle. Some of our school horses are also our show team horses! We tailor every lesson to accommodate the rider’s particular goals, while establishing a solid foundation in the basics of riding. Hunter, Jumper, Dressage, and English and Western Pleasure riders all learn to use the balanced seat essential and appropriate for their preferred riding style.

We believe that the ‘whys’ of riding, training, and horse behavior are just as important as the ‘hows’, so theory is always an essential element of our lessons. We base our lessons and classes on the theories of classical dressage. Another essential element of our lessons is correct horsemanship. Students arrive at least half an hour before a lesson, because every student learns and practices the basic responsibilities of the equine arts, including catching, grooming, and tacking up their horse. As Ms. Kathy says, “They don’t come with the saddles on!”

We ask all riders starting with us to take at least one private evaluation lesson, so that we can help you plan your personal riding program in solo or group lessons with other riders of similar experience.

Pricing

Group lessons are $35 each or $145 per month
Semi private lessons are $40 each or $155 per month

Summer Camp

A summer filled with fun and learning

Whether you are a beginner who wants to learn to ride, or an experienced rider who wants to improve your skills, there is a place for you at our Summer Riding Camp! We teach English and Western to our campers, who range in age from 7-14. From 9am to 3pm for $350 or 8am to 5pm for $400, we fill our days with horses, friends and fun! Pay in full by May 1st and get $50 off. Deposit of $100 per week required to hold space, for all not paying in full.

All horses all day

Campers are split into small riding groups based on their ability and previous riding experience. Our goal is to build each rider’s skills and confidence enabling them to ride safely and correctly. Theory is an essential plank of our curriculum. The ‘whys’ of riding, training, and horse behavior, are equally important to the ‘hows’. Small group environment allows our instructors to offer individualized attention and develop riders at their own pace. While beginner riders may be aided with a leader (if they need one), our advanced riders use a variety of tools including video tape to critique their progress.

Group horse care allows all of our campers to have hands-on experience taking care of “their own horse”. Campers work as a group to groom, tack, bathe, and care for their horses. While two riding sessions a day develops riding skills, the barn lesson teaches all aspects of horsemanship and caring for horses. Some of the things that beginner campers learn about are grooming, tacking, tack care, horse bathing, and horse breeds including colors and markings. More advanced campers continue their education learning about feed, shoeing, caring for injuries, wrapping, and show prep. Each session ends with a show, or gymkhana games and a trail ride!!

For the serious equestrian or the beginner

All campers are taught a solid foundation in the basics of riding. Hunter, Jumper, Dressage, and Pleasure students all learn to employ the balanced seat appropriate for their preferred riding style. Horsemanship is an essential aspect of every lesson. Each student is required to practice the basic responsibilities of the equine art, such as catching, grooming, and tacking their horse. As Ms. Kathy often says, “They don’t come with the saddles on!”

Horse Riding Lessons in Austin

Lessons filled with fun and learning

Whether you are a beginner just starting to learn to ride, or an experienced rider seeking to develop and improve your skills, Tri-Star Farm Riding School has a place for you! We teach private and group classes in English and Western. Our students range from just beginning to competitive, and from 4 years old to quite mature.

Quality Instruction

Our goal is to help each rider build skills and confidence, and to become an accomplished, correct, and safe rider. Theory is an essential plank of our curriculum. The ‘whys’ of riding, training, and horse behavior, are equally important to the ‘hows’.

Our classes are grouped based on the riders’ abilities and previous riding experiences. The small classes allow our instructors to offer individualized attention and our riders to develop at their own best pace. We provide assistance appropriate to each particular rider – from ‘leaders’ for beginning riders to videotape critique sessions for advanced riders.

Our riders learn to care for their lesson horses, and to groom, tack up, and untack before and after classes. Good horsemanship and foundational basics of riding are always thoroughly covered in every lesson!

Tri-Star Farm has a program to meet your needs and goals.

(Times shown for lessons are actual student riding time. Time spent on grooming, tacking and untacking is included at no charge.)
